I fhadn't been to Spain before reading Elena Armas's The Spanish Love Deception, but that's honestly the whole point of this series. A book doesn't have to be a place I've stood in myself for it to take me somewhere. That's what reading does, it hands you a journey, and sometimes that journey is so vivid you close the book already thinking about how you'd actually get there.

THE JOURNEY ON THE PAGE

Lina Martín and Aaron Blackford are coworkers, and by every account, they cannot stand each other. Aaron nearly ruined Lina's chances at InTech before she'd even settled in, he was cold when she gave him a welcome gift, and worst of all, she once overheard him tell their boss he'd work with anyone but her. So when Lina gets stuck planning her sister Isabel's wedding, a wedding in Spain, four weeks away, and finds out her ex, the groom's own brother, will be there too, Aaron is the very last person she expects to offer himself up as her fake boyfriend for the trip.

But he does. And Lina, cornered by a lie she already told her family about having a boyfriend, says yes.

What follows is the enemies-to-lovers slow burn that made this book impossible to put down. Somewhere between the wedding festivities and the quiet moments in between, Aaron says something to her one night that readers have not stopped talking about since this book came out, the kind of line that makes you put the book down for a second just to feel something.

Underneath all of it is something quieter and more tender, this is also a story about healing. I won't spoil where it all lands, but I will say this, Armas writes the ending in a way that feels genuinely earned, and I closed the book with the kind of happy sigh you only get from a love story that made you work for it a little.

She also writes the Spanish coastline this wedding takes place in with so much warmth, the golden hour light, the wedding traditions, the sense of a whole family gathering somewhere beautiful, that it's genuinely impossible to close this book and not want to see Spain for yourself.
